Print Your Own Fabric: How It Works
Alongside the prints in each of our themed preorders, we also offer "Print Your Own" designs. If you've got your own seamless artwork file, (or a Shutterstock number) you can send it in and have it printed on the fabric base of your choice, right alongside everyone else's order.
How it fits into our preorders
We run a preorder every second month, each with its own theme and a huge range of prints from artists all around the world.
Here's how the whole thing works:
🧵 You choose the prints you love (or send us your own seamless design)
🧵 You choose the fabric base that suits your project
🧵 Your fabric is printed and sent out to you in 6–12 weeks
Sending your own design simply means you're supplying the print yourself, rather than choosing from the ones on our website.
What you'll need to send us
A seamless file — your design needs to tile edge-to-edge with no visible seams or lines where it repeats.
OR
A Shutterstock number — you don't need to purchase the image, just provide the number as our printer has a commercial account. Just make sure you type the word "seamless" in with your print search.
If sending us a file, it should be:
300 DPI minimum — this keeps your print sharp rather than blurry or pixelated once it's enlarged onto fabric.
either JPEG or PNG file type.
Emailed to hello@3amthreads.co.nz before our preorder closes — designs submitted after close can't be included in that round.
Let us know your scale — if you don't know how large you'd like the actual print, just let us know how big you'd like one specific element on the print in cm and we'll sort the rest (i.e. 5cm tall frog). Not sure what will work best? Just say so in your email, as well as what you're planning to make with it and we can help you choose.
The fine print
A few things worth knowing before you send your file through:
Screen colours and printed colours can differ. What you see on your monitor is a guide, and printed colours can also vary between fabric bases.
Seamlessness is on you. We print exactly what we're sent, so take no responsibility if it doesn't tile properly on printing.
Original designs only. We can't print character prints, trademarked designs, or "inspired by" versions of someone else's work. This protects you, the original artists whose work it is, and us, from copyright issues.
